Performance in Hydro Power

Located on Jinsha River on the common border of Sichuan and Yunnan, Xiluodu Hydropower Station is the backbone project for China's West to East Power Transmission Project. Centering on power generation, the station has comprehensive benefits such as flood control, sand blocking and improving downstream navigation conditions, and can also provide cascade compensation for downstream plants. It supplies electricity mainly to East China, Central China, and also meets needs of Sichuan and Yunnan. It is the power supply the nearest to the West to East Power Transmission Project and also the largest hydropower station on Jinsha River. Xiluodu Hydropower Station's installed capacity is the second in China and the third largest in the world among all hydropower stations. Started at the end of 2005, it achieved closure in 2007. In March 2009, concrete pouring was started for its main dam body. An underground powerhouse was built for the first batch of hydro-generator units on the left and right sides each in 2013, where 9 giant water-turbine generator sets were installed with the installed capacity of 770,000 kilowatts each. With a total capacity of 13.86 million kilowatts, it ranks only after Three Gorges Hydropower Station and Itaipu Hydropower Station. At 21:50 PM on June 30, 2014, No. 1 Generation Unit on the left bank completed its 72-hour trial operation and put into production in Xiluodu Hydropower Station. So far, all generation units of Xiluodu Hydropower Station had put into production. TBEA provided SSP-H-860000/500 UHV super-capacity combined transformers and other core power transmission and transformation equipments for Xiluodu Hydropower Station.

  • As the water conservancy hub project for Three Gorges in China, Three Gorges Hydropower Station is the world's largest hydropower station and also China's largest engineering project throughout history. Officially started in 1994, Three Gorges Hydropower Station began reservoir filling and power generation on the afternoon of June 1, 2003, and was fully completed in 2009. Its dam elevation is 185 meters, reservoir elevation is 175 meters, and water reservoir is 2,335 meters long. A total of 32 sets of hydropower units with the stand-alone installed capacity of 700,000 kilowatts were set up after the static investment of RMB 135.266 billion RMB. Its last hydropower unit was put into production on July 4, 2012. This means that Three Gorges Hydropower Station with the total installed capacity of up to 22.4 million kilowatts become the world's largest hydropower station and clean energy production base on July 4, 2012. TBEA provided 840MVA 500kV UHV supercapacity transformers, wires and cables, and other core power transmission and transformation equipments for Three Gorges Hydropower Station.

  • Located on Hongshui River and 15 miles away from Tian'e County Guangxi, Longtan Hydropower Station is the symbolic project for China's West to East Power Transmission Project, and also a key project for China Western Development Strategy. Its construction was started on July 1, 2001, and it was completed and put into production at the end of 2009. Its design storage level is 400 meters, dam is 216.5 meters high, dam crest length is 836 meters, storage capacity is 27.3 billion cubic meters, installed capacity is 6.3 million kilowatts, and annual output is 18.7 billion kWh. Longtan Hydropower Station created several world records of Association of China's World Records. It has three world's most items: the highest roller compacted concrete dam whose height is 216.5 meters and crest length is 836 meters; the biggest underground powerhouse, which hides in the mountainside and is 388.5 meters long, 28.5 meters wide, and 74.4 m high; the highest ship lift with the maximum hoisting height of 179 meters and total length of 1,700 meters. As one tourist destination integrating China's second largest water conservancy project and natural landscape, Longtan Tourism Scenic Area has attracted a large number of tourists from home and abroad with its perfect ecology and three world's most items. TBEA provided the world's first 500kV combined generator transformer and other core power transmission and transformation equipments for Longtan Hydropower Station.
  • Located on the downstream of Lancang River and in Pu 'er City, Yunnan Province, China, Nuozhadu Hydropower Station is the fifth cascade of the "Two- reservoir & Five-cascade Planning" for the middle and lower reaches of Lancang River, and also the biggest power station in Lancang River Basin in terms of project scale and adjustable storage capacity. With a total investment of about RMB 45 billion RMB, it has a total installed capacity of 5.85 million kilowatts, totally 9 sets of 650,000KW power units, guaranteed output of 2.4 million kilowatts, and average power production of 23.912 billion KWH for many years. Huaneng Nuozhadu Hydropower Station is a key project for China's West to East Power Transmission Project and Yunnan's External Power Transmission Project, and also an important project for Yunnan Province to cultivate the electrical pillar industry centering on hydro power and build the national hydropower bases. After its completion, Nuozhadu Hydropower Station has not only obtained enormous economic benefits, but also fully embodied the power stations' benefits from energy conservation and emission reduction. According to estimation, after all generating units were put into operation for power it is equivalent to saving 9.56 million tons of standard coal a year for the country and reducing 18.77 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. At the same time, it also decreased a lot of waste water, waste slag, floating dust, and other pollutants. TBEA provided 500kV main transformers and other core power transmission and transformation equipments for Nuozhadu Hydropower Station.
